Skoda Scala - front-wheel drive five-door C-class hatchback, which became the heir to the model Rapid Spaceback. World premiere car took place in December 2018 in the Israeli city of Tel Aviv.
?koda Scala competitors:
The name Scala is translated from Latin as "ladder" or "step", and the choice of this particular name is not accidental. The hatchback has a new, more emotional and dynamic design. The radiator grill has a hexagonal shape that is well recognizable on the road. The signature 'tornado' line that runs across the side of the car emphasizes length and dynamism, while the headlights and narrow L-shaped taillights feature crystal motifs, a nod to the tradition of Bohemian crystal. In addition, the ?koda Scala is the first European production car of the company, which has the brand name instead of a logo on the trunk lid.
Compared to its predecessor, the Spaceback, the new ?koda Scala is 58mm longer (4362mm), 12mm taller (1471mm) and 87mm wider (1793mm). Another 47 mm (up to 2649 mm) increased the wheelbase of the five-door. For those to whom “dry” numbers are not important, ?koda said that the “Rock” is practically not inferior in terms of interior spaciousness.Octavia ”, and even surpasses the eminent relative in terms of the supply of free space above her head. It is also interesting that in terms of such an important parameter as the volume of the trunk (467 l), the new Skoda is ahead of its main rivals: Ford Focus 4th generation with its 316 l, Volkswagen Golf 7 with an indicator of 380 l and Opel Astra K, the luggage compartment of which holds 370 liters.
In the interior design, the continuity of the corporate identity of the Czech brand and the rigor characteristic of most Volkswagen cars can be traced. However, it was not without innovations, which will later be applied to other cars of the brand. First of all, this is the display of the multimedia system that is placed outside the center console. Depending on the configuration, the screen diagonal can be 6.5, 8.0 or 9.2 inches. Other highlights include a wrist rest just below the display and central ventilation vents lower than on previous models.
Structurally, the "Rock" is closest to the Volkswagen Polo and ?koda Fabia - all of them have elements of the MQB-A0 modular platform in common. Hence the McPherson front + semi-independent rear suspension. However, in some European countries, cars with a sports suspension will also be sold, which implies a 15 mm lower ground clearance and dual-mode electronically controlled shock absorbers.
The initial range of ?koda Scala engines for Europe included three petrol, one diesel and one dual-fuel (gasoline/methane) engines. Motor power varies from 90 to 150 hp. All of them are equipped with turbochargers, direct fuel injection system and comply with Euro 6d-TEMP environmental standards. Standard equipment also includes a start-stop system and brake energy recuperation.
Three-cylinder 1.0 TSI petrol engine with 95 hp. and a maximum torque of 175 Nm is combined with a 5-speed "mechanics". 1.0 TSI motors in a 115 hp modification. and 200 Nm, as well as hfour-cylinder 1.5 TSI with a return of 150 hp and 250 Nm, work in tandem with a 6-speed “mechanics” or a 7-speed “robot” DSG with dual clutch. Similar transmission options are also available for the 1.6 TDI turbodiesel. But the 1.0 G-TEC bi-fuel unit (90 hp, 145 Nm) is aggregated only with “mechanics” in 6 steps.
In Ukraine, ?koda Scala is offered with 1.6 MPI (110 hp) and 1.5 TSI (150 hp) petrol engines, as well as 1.6 TDI (116 hp) diesel engines. The atmospheric unit 1.6 MPi is combined with a 5-speed "mechanics" and a 6-speed torque converter "automatic" Aisin. The turbocharged 1.5 TSI is available in combination with a 7-speed DSG transmission. The 1.6 TDI engine is available with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed DSG.
The list of options varies by country. In the most "stuffed" version Skoda Scala features dual-zone climate control, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, full LED headlights and taillights. For rich configurations of the five-door, its creators provided for an electric fifth door, a heated steering wheel, adaptive cruise control, an automatic braking system and automatic parking. For a surcharge, the ?koda Scala can also be equipped with a panoramic roof, a folding towbar and an electric heated windshield.
Serial production of the ?koda Scala started in February 2019 at the brand's factory in Mlad? Boleslav (Czech Republic). The start of sales in Ukraine is scheduled for autumn 2019.
